Welcome to The Real DFG's Pittsburgh Penguin Autograph Project. My goal is to eventually try and get at least one autograph of every player to lace up the skates in an NHL game for the Pittsburgh Penguins. It could have been for one game or 700 games, I will add them. Occasionally I may post cards of former players in their new team uniforms. While the goal is to get autos in Pens uni's, it isn't always possible. Since the team has been in existence since 1967, the list is pretty large. Last I checked, it was somewhere in the range of 624 different players. Currently, I sit at about 100 autographs (with some duplication). Enjoy the posts.

Toby Petersen

Toby played parts of two seasons with the Pens after being drafted in the 9th round of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft by Pittsburgh.  Toby's style has translated into a fairly solid career in the NHL, mostly with the Dallas Stars.  He has the ability to play center or either wing position, which makes his services invaluable to a club needing third and fourth line support.  Last season, he played with Dallas' AHL Texas Stars.

Although he only played 91 games for the Pens, he was part of the organization for five seasons, mostly with the AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton "Baby" Penguins.  In the 03-04 season with WBS, he was nominated as Man of the Year for his work with diabetes.  Toby is a Type-1 diabetic and at times, has to use an insulin pump during practices and games.  He has been quoted as saying that it doesn't hinder his game and the material that the pumps are made of should be able to withstand a direct slap shot.       If his blood sugar gets off kilter during a game, he can easily fix it during a timeout.

I wonder if he ever tested that theory?
